We care about your horse and are proud to be your horse’s healthcare provider. The wellbeing and health of your horse(s) is our utmost priority. But healthcare for horses can be expensive, particularly when it involves hospitalization in the case of an emergency.

The average expense for a horse to undergo abdominal surgery for colic can easily run from $8,000 - $10,000. Surgical repair of lacerations in joints or tendons average $3,000-$4,000 and post-operative rehabilitation can add several thousand dollars also.

The Equine Clinic of Saratoga has a state-of-the-art equine hospital with all medical and surgical capabilities. We have established a team of professionals with many years of experience and a network of specialists available to keep your horse safe and sound. We now offer the most comprehensive healthcare coverage possible.

 Benefits include:

• Every horse under your ownership is covered for 3 or 4 years, respectively.

• Two levels of coverage: 

  • Premium Plan: A one-time payment of $4,800 pays for all hospital expenses up to $9,000 for 4 years. 

  • Base Plan: A one-time payment of $3,600 pays for all hospital expenses up to $7,000 for 3 years.

• Peace of mind for any emergency, including medical and surgical colic, lacerations and medical conditions requiring hospitalization (see exception)

• No age limitations. No limitations on the number of horses under your ownership you can cover.

• Your horse is also covered for specialty and emergency procedures at other hospitals for up to the dollar amount you paid, even when traveling out of state.

• Included with the Premium Plan is one (1) Health Care Package (a $850 value) for a horse of your choice. See our Health Care Brochure for details (?)

We want to give you an opportunity to cover any horse under your ownership for hospital expenses which may occur during emergency hospitalization. Thus, providing you peace of mind should your horse experience an emergency which does not respond or cannot be managed at your barn.

Should hospitalization be deemed necessary to provide the best outcome for your horse, this program provides hospital expense coverage up to $9,000 or $7,000 respectively. All fo part of the coverage can be used for any horse under your ownership during a period of 4 or 3 years respectively. These plans allow you to make important decisions regarding your horse’s well-being without financial stressors and puts your horse’s best interest first.

We have come a long way, using advanced medical and surgical treatments which have significantly improved the prognosis and outcome for horses with certain ailments. Your horse should have the option to benefit from these advanced skills and techniques. Our plan is designed to make this possible.

Eligibility

1. The program is limited to horse owners (“clients”) who are a client of Axel F. Sondhof, DVM, MS, P.C. (“Axel F. Sondhof”, “The Equine Clinic of Saratoga”, “Practice”). Axel F. Sondhof, DVM, MS, P.C. reserves the right to approved or deny and limit the purchase of the Program to any client

2. All horses owned and enrolled by the Client must

   • Undergo at least one physical exam each year performed by a veterinarian of the Practice and comply with all of the veterinarian’s recommendations (both as a result of the physical examination or any other recommendations)

   • Have at least one dental examination done by the Practice veterinarian and administration of dental treatment(s) as recommended by such examination

   • Have annual vaccinations administered by the Practice including all recommended “core” vaccinations

   • Have at least one yearly deworming administration and at least one fecal egg count done each year of the program duration

   • Must be fully weaned and at least five months of age

3. A newly acquired horse can be added any time during the duration of the plan and is eligible after a 5-day waiting period and a Practice veterinarian is scheduled to perform a physical exam within 30 days of registering the horse. A previously performed Pre-Purchase examination by a Practice veterinarian can be counted as the required examination.

4. Any horse(s) owned by the Client is not covered and not eligible for colic coverage, but is eligible for all other emergencies requiring hospitalization, if the horse has had previous colic or abdominal surgery, defined as any surgical procedure done to a horse’s abdomen at any time during the horse’s life.
